Post No. 063: For The New Year — "A Happy New Year For Every One Of Us!"

(Image by Paul Whiting)

(It Should Be) A Happy New
Year For Every One Of Us!

It should be "A Happy New Year" for every one of us:
For the young and the old;
For the meek and the bold;
For whoever you are: White, Black or Brown;
For however you may feel about yourself;
For whichever are your pronouns;
For those living in the countryside;
For those living in the cities or towns;
For those living in every county and province around;
For the ones we know because they are at a distance;
For the ones we know because they are so near;
For everyone who is a part of God's coexistence;
For everyone who is a part of what God holds dear;
For those who are struggling;
For those who are juggling;
For those who have less;
For those who have more;
For the ones who travel all over the world;
For the ones who never step outside of their door;
For the ones who know that they have been everywhere;
For the ones who do not know where they have been;
For the unthinking;
For the studied;
For the muddied;
For the clean;
For the wild;
For the mild;
For the challenged;
For the unchallenged;
For those who are terribly fat;
For those who are terribly thin;
For those who only believe in this or that;
For those who only seem to try and win;
For those who think that they can only loose;
For those who just keep on singing those blues;
For the ones who are incredibly muscular;
For the ones who are incredibly weak;
For the ones who are male, or female;
For the ones who are everything in between;
For straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, intersex, or trans;
For every one of us who sees life through a different lens;
For every one of us who loves to be seen;
For every one of us who cannot be seen;
For every one of us who have a lot in common;
For every one of us who are quite uncommon;
For every one of us who are so very common;
For every one of us who likes to eat ramen;
For every one of us who are geeks;
For every one of us who are sheik;
For all of the people, animals, insects and plants;
For the entire environment and the whole planet...

..."A Happy New Year For Every One Of Us!"

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: I wrote this poem because I changed the original theme of this post. You see, the original title of this post was: "Happy New Year! Happy New Blog!" And I was going to say something about that very topic with regard to my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, I created in order to have "a place to place all of my best writing in one place!"

But then, on December 29th, 2021, I got to thinking about how I wanted to sing a song for The New Year to publish on YouTube (because I have a YouTube channel, which is called "Paul Whiting: Poet, Artist and Philosopher," at https://youtube.com/user/pauleewhitingartist), but there are really only two songs about New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day, or The New Year, which are not that many! And I didn't want to sing those two songs—even though I started to draft a medley of those two songs combined, so that I could sing them for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and publish them on YouTube...

...And then, I though about trying to write an original song for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day/The New Year (which would be my first attempt at doing such a thing), but I don't really know who to read and/or write music! However, that did not stop me from attempting to write a 'chorus' for this New Year's song, which I originally titled: "(It Should Be) A Happy New Year For Everyone!" And I kept adding all sorts of different lines—in the chorus for this New Year's song—which were all of the types of people and things that I felt should be included in having "A Happy New Year For Everyone!"

Anyway, as I continued writing, it dawned on me that I was essentially writing a poem. So, that is when I decided to change this post title from "Happy New Year! Happy New Blog!" to "(It Should Be) A Happy New Year For Every One Of Us!"

By the way, I changed the last word of the title, since I looked up the difference between the word 'everyone' and the words 'every one' and found out that "everyone (one word) should be used when referring to all the people within a group [and] every one (two words) should be used when referring to each individual member of a group. [Thus,] every one is the version you want when it's followed by an 'of' phrase."

And that it is all that I have to say about every one of us, everyone, on this New Year's Day!

And this poem was only published on my "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog.

This poem was written in Portland, Oregon.
