Post No. 071: For Japheth, Part 2 — Everything I Am

(Image from We Hug Jewelry)

Everything I Am

Sometimes,
I want to give
you everything I am,
hand myself over to you,
turn myself into you
—not to lose myself—
but to remember
who we are.

You and I
are one and the
same—we are equals.
And recently, I have been
calling upon the part of
you that is the part of
me that I was
missing.

This
part of me has
now returned and
I wish to thank you for
what you gave to me
when I was so
greatly in
need.

Now,
I wish to
surrender myself to
you—lay myself down
for you—be to you
what you have
been for
me.

So,
with this gift,
I promise to be a
light for you in the
darkness, a friend
for you when
you are in
need.

I give
this to you
as a symbol of
myself, as a reminder
of what I am to you.
For, it speaks of
everything
I am.

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: Being the "Neo Hippy" that I am, I was trying to find a communal-style living situation, where I could live as sustainably as possible and also be the naturist that I am!

And the summer of 2000, and part of the autumn, I worked at Breitenbush Hot Springs, which is a bathing-area clothing-optional resort and convention center in Detroit, Oregon. And that is where I met Japheth (pronounced "jay-peth"), who is like My Soul Brother.

And I wrote this poem for "Jay" (which is his nickname), and also gave him an amethyst crystal necklace (which was similar to the one illustrating this poem), as a way to say "Thank you for being there for me when I needed you!" At the time, I was living with Jay, as a roommate, in the house that he and his boyfriend, Sean, bought in Portland.

And I wrote this poem right after I had gone to see a Shamanic Counselor and I had a spontaneous "Soul Retrieval," because a part of my soul had returned that had left when I was younger, due to that part of my soul fearing being given away! You see, when I saw this Shamanic Counselor about another issue, this part of my soul felt like returning to live with me again, since that part of my soul felt safe again, because I was healing.

And this poem was also published on my "Small All White in the Forest" blog (please see the hyperlink below for the blog), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message that I am trying to convey through "Small All White in the Forest."

This poem was written in Portland, Oregon.

Post No. 070: For Japheth, Part 1 — Soul Brother!

(Image from Shutterstock)

Soul Brother!

Be still, my brother,
And know that I love you.

Be still and know
You truly are my brother.

Be still and know
We will always be together.

Be still and know
That death cannot separate us.

Be still and know
I will always come for you.

Be still and know
That's how we found each other.

Be still and know
My heart lays open for you.

Be still and know
What my love for you holds.

Be still and know
We are a part of each other.

Be still and know
I am Earth and you are Fire.

Be still and know
Why I call you Soul Brother.

And I wrote this poem as a way to console "Jay" (which is his nickname), after I told him that I was HIV-positive!

You see, we were living in separate households when I told him that I was "positive," which was around November of 2000; however, later on, I lived with Jay, as a roommate, in the house that he and his boyfriend, Sean, bought in Portland.

By the way, I also did a rewrite of this poem that I wrote as a symbolic reference to the Chakras—or the Energy Centers of the Human Body—which is titled, "'Soul Children, My Children.'" (Please see "Soul Brother-Style Poem" in labels for the poem.)

Post No. 069: For 'zendawg23' whose chat conversation on gay.com inspired me!

(Image from WallpaperCave)

I Am The Sound
[An "Amazing Grace" poem poetic adaptation]

Amazing Grace, I am the sound
which saved a soul like me. I once
cried, "lost," but now I call "found."
I was in a "bind," but now "I'm free!"

'Twas myself who taught my heart to
fear—and myself my fears relieved.
How precious did I finally appear
the minute I first believed!

Through many pleasures, joys
and scares, I have already come.
'Tis myself who took me out this far
and I will bring myself home!

When I have been there a zillion
years, bright shining as The Son,
I have no less days to be God's Praise
than when I had first begun!

Amazing Grace, I am the sound
which saves a soul like me. I once
cried, "lost," but now I call "found."
I was in a "bind," but now "I'm free!"

-Paul Whiting
(a.k.a., A Creative Writer)
"I maybe say too much about how life really is!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: To be perfectly honest, I do not remember exactly how I was inspired—after chatting online with someone called "zendawg23" (on the now defunct gay.com chat site)—to do a poetic adaptation of John Newton's famous poem "Amazing Grace." I do know that I was trying to convey the idea that we all have the power to 'make ill,' or to 'make well,' our own souls, because I truly do believe that "We Are All A Part Of God!"

Thus, this poem is a poetic adaptation of the hymn "Amazing Grace," which was originally written as a poem by John Newton and joined with the hymn "New Britain," as the melody most currently associated with the hymn. And it is one of two adaptations that I have written of John Newton's poem-turned-into-a-hymn with the other poem being inspired by Leann Rimes' a cappella cover of the hymn "Amazing Grace," which is published on this blog. (Please see "Amazing Grace-Style Poem" in labels for the poem.)

Just so you know, I revised this poem, as I often do with my writing! And I changed how one line of this poem was written when I realized that I should remove the metaphorical comparison to "blindness," since it is disrespectful toward those who are blind. So, I wanted to show you how this particular line used to be written, before I revised it as above.

And it used to be written like this:

...claimed I was "blind," but now "I see!"

Thus, I revised this poem to be written as it is above.

And this poem was also published on my "Three Dark Horses" and "Small All White in the Forest" blogs (please see the hyperlinks below for the blogs), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Three Dark Horses" and "Small All White in the Forest." Plus, I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through my new "The Oneness Of God" spiritual practice!

This poem was poetically adapted in Portland, Oregon.

Post No. 068: God Is Self-Aware Nothing

(Image from Absolute Nothingness)

God Is Self-Aware Nothing

In Literally Nothing, which
is how all things began,
the naturally-occurring
vibration at the center
of Nothing has consciousness,
due to the pressure right
in the middle of Nothing.
And that consciousness
is God. Therefore, God
is Self-Aware Nothing.

My Writing About How God Is Self-Aware Nothing: In Literally Nothing, which is how all things began, the naturally occurring vibration at the center of Nothing has consciousness, due to the pressure right in the middle of Nothing. And that consciousness is God. Therefore, God is Self-Aware Nothing. –Paul Whiting (written April 21st, 2016, revised October 16, 2021 and revised October 12th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About No Soul Being Exempt From Being God: No soul is exempt from being Literally Nothing until each soul exempts oneself from being Literally Nothing by becoming Literally Everything, which is what God is... In other words, no soul is exempt from being God, because God is Literally Nothing which can become Literally Everything. –Paul Whiting (written September 1st, 2016, revised June 30th, 2022 and revised October 2nd, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The Light Of God Formed
From Literally Nothing
(Or, "An Explanation-Of-Creation Poem")

In the Beginning Of Everything,
there was Literally Nothing.

And Nothing had a vibration at its
center, due to the pressure being
produced right in the middle of
Nothing. (And that vibration was
smaller than the head of a sewing pin,
which is why all of the matter in
the Universe starts out smaller
than the head of a pin.) And that
vibration—right at the center
of Literally Nothing—produced
consciousness, or self-awareness,
which is the Light Of God.

And that Light Of God did not
know what it was for an eternity
times an eternity, since that Light
was formed out of Literally Nothing,
which was vibrating at its center
due to the pressure right in
the middle of Nothing...

...By The Way, Nothing Is
All That Exist, Because That
Is All That Could Exist...

...And because the Light Of God
did not know what it was, it asked
itself forever and forever
and forevermore...

..."What Am I?"

For, the Light Of God knew that
it was definitely something,
since it had consciousness
(or, self-awareness) and,
therefore, it knew that it must
be something, but the Light Of God
did not know what it actually was...

...And so, a really, really, really, really,
really, really, really long story short...

...the Light Of God, as it
turned out, was actually
the "Consciousness Of Nothing,"
which is what the Light Of God
was finally able to figure out,
due to the following: critical
thinking, problem solving,
trial and error effort, hard
work and honesty, learning
from making mistakes and
then doing better in the future.

And Light Of God was also
able to figure out that it was,
in fact, God in the form of the
"Self-Awareness Of Literally Nothing,"
which is why the Light Of God
did not know what it was
in the Beginning Of Everything!

Thus, the Light Of God eventually
figured out how to turn itself
into Universes, since it was,
in fact, light (which, again, is
the "Consciousness Of Nothing")
and that Light Of God has been
turning itself into Universes ever since.

So, in conclusion, then:

Literally Nothing Is All That Exists!
And There Is A Vibration In The Center
Of Nothing—Due To The Pressure Right
In The Middle Of Nothing—And That
Vibration Produces Consciousness
(In The Form Of Light), Which Can
Turn Itself Into Universes, Since That
Is What Consciousness Is, Because...

..."The Light Of God Formed
From Literally Nothing!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: "God is Self-Aware Nothing," because "in Literally Nothing, which is how all things began, the naturally-occurring vibration at the center of Nothing has consciousness, due to the pressure right in the middle of Nothing. And that consciousness is God."

By the way, there is a story behind the republishing of this particular 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' blog post on my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog from the blog that it was originally published on, which is my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog.

You see, I republished what I felt were the very best posts out of all my blog posts from my four older blogs on my "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, since I decided to create this new blog in order to have "a place to place all of my best writing in one place!"

And my plan for this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog was to republish my old posts in as chronological of an order as I could manage—while at the same time placing posts with similar topics in 'groups,' as I have done with some of the posts on my old blogs—which is what I have done on this new blog!

Thus, most of the other republished posts from my four older blogs have been republished on this new blog in chronological order, as much as possible, up until I decided to republish this particular blog post.

Therefore, please let me explain the reason for republishing this 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' blog post outside of the usual chronological order for republishing blog posts, on my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, since it is quite complicated.

Part One Of This Quite Complicated Explanation:

First, I originally decided to not republish this particular post on my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, because it was quite similar to another blog post that I wrote titled, "God Is Literally Nothing Which Can Become Literally Everything," which was simultaneously published across three out of four of my older blogs.

And these two similar blog posts basically discussed the same topic, which can be summarized with the following two statements.

Statement No. 1: From my 'God Is Literally Nothing Which Can Become Literally Everything' blog post:

"God is Literally Nothing."

Statement No. 2: From my 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' blog post:

"God is Self-Aware Nothing."

In fact, you could actually summarize the two statements above as the following third statement:

Statement No. 3: From my 'God Is Literally Nothing Which Can Become Literally Everything' and 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' blog posts combined:

"God is Literally Nothing which is Self-Aware."

Anyway, since I had already explained the idea that "God is Literally Nothing" from my 'God Is Literally Nothing Which Can Become Literally Everything' blog post, it seemed kind of redundant to republish that same idea in the form of "God is Self-Aware Nothing" from the blog post of that same name!

And, as I mentioned above, I originally published 'God Is Literally Nothing Which Can Become Literally Everything' simultaneously over three of my older blogs, which specifically are my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher," "Three Dark Horses" and "Small All White in the Forest" blogs.

Therefore, that is why I originally decided to not republish this 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' post on my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. (I hope that makes sense!)

Part Two Of This Quite Complicated Explanation:

Second, the poem that I had previously republished on this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, which was originally published on my "Small All White in the Forest" blog, I decided to revert to draft format on this "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. And that is why I replaced that post, which I reverted to draft format on this new blog, with this 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' post.

Now, just to let you know, the above-mentioned post—which is still published on my "Small All White in the Forest" blog—is a poem written for my two bosses at the litigation document coding company that I worked for when I moved to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah for the first time! And the poem is titled, "These Words" (please see the hyperlink below for the post):

https://smallallwhiteintheforest.blogspot.com/2009/04/for-tammy-and-victoria-not-simply-bosses.html

Thus, because I reverted this "These Words" post to draft format, that left a 'gap,' so to speak, in the sequence of the publishing dates, as well as a 'gap' in the sequence of post numbers, on this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog!

So, that is why I decided to utilize this 'God Is Self-Aware Nothing' blog post as a way to 'fill in the gap' that I had created when I reverted the above-mentioned "These Words" blog post to draft format, thereby preserving the sequence of publishing dates, as well as preserving the sequence of blog post numbers, on my "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. (I hope that makes sense!)

And this poem was also published on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog (please see the hyperlink below for the blog), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Poet, Artist and Philosopher."

This poem was written in Portland, Oregon.

Post No. 067: My New Year's Resolutions, Part 4 — My New Year's Resolution from 2016 (Looking Back...)

(Image from YouTube)

My New Year's Resolution from 2016:
"There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E."
(This Is Part Of A Series Of Looking Back At My New Year's Resolutions From 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016)

My New Year's Resolution from 2016 was musically themed as "There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E.," with the acronym 'D.A.M.E.' representing the following:

1. Debt Prevention
2. Activist Return
3. Music Appreciation
4. Emotional Development

...And this New Year's Resolution from 2016 was a continuation of my New Year's Resolution from 2015, since I found out that my musically themed New Year's Resolution "There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E." (which I updated, back then, to stand for Debt Prevention, Activist Return, along with Music Appreciation and Emotional Development) was taking longer than just one year! That was why I decided to carryover my New Year's Resolution from 2015 to 2016, and beyond...

Debt Prevention: Back then, I was totally out of credit card debt, as of January 2016, and I worked on preventing going into credit card debt again by relying on the savings that I had set aside in order to take care of any unexpected expenses that I might incur—which I would normally charge to a credit card and pay off over time. So, back then, if I had to make an unexpected purchase, I would still charge it to my credit card, but then I took money out of savings to pay off the entire credit card balance that I owed. Then, I repaid the savings for however much that I borrowed as soon as I able to do so.

By the way, I still owed my dad, back then, for the furniture that he bought for me when I moved to Oregon from Utah—for the second time—and I was able to repay my dad for about half of what I still owed him, before he passed away on February 18th, 2018.

Activist Return: Back then, after the 2014 "Koch Brothers' Midterm Elections," the wind had gone out of my proverbial sails, and I took an "Activist Sabbatical" for the foreseeable future... However, once I was out of debt, and because it was the 2016 election year, I was being an "Online Activist" again, but only with regard to politics, plus some environmental and social issues.

Music Appreciation: Back then, although I had returned to being an "Online Activist," I continued recharging my proverbial batteries by listening to the all of music that I wished!

Emotional Development: Back then, I realized that I am getting older by the minute... And I could tell by how inflexible I am that I needed to create a regular exercise routine, such as yoga, in order to prevent being completely immobile when I am older; however, before I could even think about starting a new Exercise Routine, I realized, back on January 31st, 2015, that I have some Emotional Development issues that I need to work on!

[October 28th, 2019 Update, Written On January 23rd, 2022: I decided to stop taking public transportation in order to get around... So, I started to walk everywhere I go in order to transport myself—and as a way for me to exercise at the same time! However, I am limited as to how far I can travel, since I can only walk about a total of three to four miles in one direction. And so, I have been walking everywhere I go, ever since October 28th, 2019.]

Also, I did not end up providing an update in 2017 of my year-long efforts with "D.A.M.E." (Debt Prevention, Activist Return, Music Appreciation and Emotional Development) in My New Year's Resolution 2016 Update, due to being too stressed out; however, I did provide updates during the year, which can be found below.

-Paul Whiting
(a.k.a., A Creative Writer)
"I maybe say too much about how life really is!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this prose can be summed up with the following statement: Back then, I wrote this prose because I was carrying over My New Year's Resolution from 2015, which focused on Debt Elimination, an Activist Sabbatical, Music Appreciation and Emotional Development ("D.A.M.E."), but, in 2016, I worked on Debt Prevention, an Activist Return, along with Music Appreciation and Emotional Development.

Also, this prose was originally published January 1st, 2016 on my "Small All White in the Forest" and my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blogs; however, I eventually decided to only keep the "New Year's Resolution" type of posts on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, since these posts are more about philosophy than poetry.

And I also decided to republish these "New Year's Resolution" type of posts from my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, on this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. You see, these "Resolution" posts were originally published in the years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 on January 1st—with updates provided, for each of the above-mentioned years, at the start of the following year (with the exception of the update for My New Year's Resolution from 2016, in which case I did not provide an update in 2017 due to being too stressed out), as well as with updates provided during the year in 2015 and 2016—and I have basically kept the same New Year's Resolutions ever since then.

Not only that, these original posts show the progression that I made as I went from consuming animal products to being totally vegan!

And this prose was also published on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog (please see the hyperlink below for the blog), since I feel that the message in this prose applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Poet, Artist and Philosopher."

This prose was written in Portland, Oregon.

-Paulee

https://poetartistandphilosopher.blogspot.com

-------------------------------------------------------------------

January 7th, 2016 Update: Speaking of emotional development, I decided to become vegan again, sometime before the end of March 2015, and I am feeling much better about my food choices, plus I am feeling much better overall. You see, I became vegan the first time in 1999, right before I moved here to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah the first time. (I moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah from Oregon in early 2007—for about two years—and then I returned to Portland in early 2009.) So, this is actually my second time living in Oregon and also my second time being vegan!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

March 26th, 2016 Update: Speaking of emotional development, I buy "preserved foods" as much as possible (that is, canned, cooked, dried, frozen, pickled and refrigerated, etc.), so that I virtually never throw away food, because I only eat foods that are preserved, when I am in the mood to eat them... Now, this also means that I don't eat fresh foods, but I would eat my own home-grown foods, if I had my own garden! Thus, I choose to not buy fresh produce* since I worry about being able to eat produce while it is good and fresh! That is just my personal preference, however, in order to prevent throwing away food that has gone bad—which means wasting food—and that is not okay in My Philosophical Book Of Life!

*[October 18th, 2018 Update: I realized, in the year 2018, that I should be buying and eating fresh produce, especially local produce, as part of choosing to be a "Conscious Consumer." And what prompted me to realize that I should be buying and eating fresh produce, especially local produce, is the fact that in the year 2017 here in Portland, Oregon, I joined three cooperative grocery stores—as a member who buys a 'co-op' share in order to support that 'co-op'—but I was not buying any fresh produce! Thus, I realized my error with regard to not buying fresh produce in terms of being a 'Conscious Consumer,' who endeavors to support local businesses, including small farms. Therefore, I have started to buy and eat fresh produce, from the various grocery stores at which I shop, but in small quantities, so that I have time to eat the produce while it is good and fresh!]

-------------------------------------------------------------------

March 27th, 2016 Update: Speaking of emotional development, I decided give up candy, sweets and chocolate bars around the first part of April 2015. And I used to eat candy, sweets and chocolate bars like they were going out of style! Plus, I even switched to eating only fair trade and/or organic chocolate when I found out that there is slavery in the chocolate industry! Then, I found out from my doctor that I was becoming diabetic; thus, I decided to stop consuming most of the foods I was eating that contained mostly sugar. Plus, candy, sweets and chocolate bars are empty-calorie foods and are not good for you! So now, I am eating organic and/or fair trade energy bars, which satisfy my need for candy, sweets and chocolate bars with something that is healthier. However, I do sometimes indulge in organic and/or fair trade chocolate for holidays and special occasions, like my birthday, but it is only a few times per year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

April 21st, 2016 Update: Speaking of emotional development, I have decided to NOT exercise until I am in the mood to do so, at some future point in time, since the only way that I will ever actually exercise is if I am in the mood. (I exercised about half a dozen times in 2015 and I have not exercised at all so far this year!) Plus, I have not lost the weight that I thought I was going to lose, since I started being vegan about a year ago. (I must consider, though, that I am seventeen years older than I was the first time that I became vegan and lost around forty pounds over several months; and I was also doing light home maintenance and furniture refinishing for my parents in Salt Lake City, Utah as a job—while I was living with my parents at that time, before moving here to Portland, Oregon—and so I was working several days per week from home; plus, vegan foods were kind of difficult to find in Utah back then and I was committed to not eating any animal meat or animal products, so I consciously chose to go hungry if I could not find vegan foods to buy.) Anyway, I have decided to focus on improving my vegan diet for the foreseeable future, as well, in order to work on making healthier food choices and to not eat so many vegan snacks as meals, as I have been doing quite frequently. Besides that, yesterday I finally realized that I really need to buy running shoes in order to be able to eventually power walk and still be able to support my "high pressure" feet, which tire me out when I walk. And my "high pressure" feet also might mean that I need orthotics, which will probably require a prescription from my doctor. So, I am probably not going to exercise for the foreseeable future, until I am good and ready!

[October 28th, 2019 Update, Written On January 23rd, 2022: I decided to stop taking public transportation in order to get around... So, I started to walk everywhere I go in order to transport myself—and as a way for me to exercise at the same time! And so, I have been walking everywhere I go, ever since October 28th, 2019.]

-------------------------------------------------------------------

May 26th, 2016 Update: It has been exactly one month since I have been back on Facebook (I reactivated my account on April 26th, 2016). And I wanted to say something about how I am being a "Minimal Activist" now and how I owe it all to having been a "Maximum Activist" prior to this. You see, I used to receive emails from about seventy different political and progressive organizations (hence the term "Maximum Activist"), but after the 2014 "Koch Brothers' Midterm Elections," the wind went out of my proverbial sails and I decided to take an "Activist Sabbatical" from approximately the end of 2014 to the end of 2015. So now that I am being an "Minimal Activist," I am only focusing on receiving information from Democratic political organizations during this election year and progressive organizations that represent the most important issues in the progressive movement, so that I still have time and energy to take care if my day-to-day needs, while I am being an "Online Activist."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

May 29th, 2016 Update: I have decided to completely change the way that I interact on Facebook! I am simply going to use Facebook to stay in contact with friends and family with whom I only have contact via Facebook. Plus, I will share some posts from my blogs and that is pretty much it. And I am doing this because being an "Online Activist" on Facebook as much as I have been doing lately is starting to stress me out, due to me feeling so terribly insecure about this year's election, so much so that I have "Insecurity Concerns." Thus, I am continuing to be a "Minimal Activist," but I am only doing that through email by signing political and progressive petitions, by making donations to political and progressive organizations and, of course, by voting! And making this change gives me the time and energy to hope for the best in this year's election, but to prepare for the worst...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

June 11th, 2016 Update: I have decided to start "Dieting Like A Man!" What I mean by that is I am trying to avoid eating so much sugar and fat in my diet. For example, I have stopped eating energy bars on a daily basis and only buy them when I go shopping at a store that carries them—and only on an occasional basis. Also, I am trying to switch to healthier "snacks" that are more like a meal, because I have been eating good meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but then I snack between meals until I am so full that it is like a meal. Thus, I am trying to choose low sugar and low fat snacks that are more like a meal, such as a vegan sandwich!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

September 8th, 2016 Update: I am continuing to "Diet Like A Man!" And I am realizing—now that I have successfully removed most of the sugar from my diet, by not eating energy bars on a daily basis—that I am consuming a lot of oil in the form of vegan cheeses. So, I am working on not eating nearly as much vegan cheese as I have been lately, which is what I think is continuing to contribute to my inability to healthily lose weight on my vegan diet!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

September 13th, 2016 Update: I have just finished rereading the "Conversations with God" books, including "A Conversation with God: An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1)," "Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 2)," "Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 3)," "Friendship with God: An Uncommon Dialogue," "Communion with God: An Uncommon Dialogue," "The New Revelations: A Conversation with God," "Tomorrow's God: Our Greatest Spiritual Challenge," "What God Wants: A Compelling Answer to Humanity's Biggest Question," and "Home with God: In A Life That Never Ends." You see, I began rereading the "Conversations with God" books shortly after June 5th, 2016 and just finished rereading them yesterday, September 12th, 2016.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

October 11th, 2016 Update: I have totally blown my diet whilst "Dieting Like A Man!" This month, I have gone on a chocolate binge and have even earned myself a pimple in the process... ("Oh God, is this red thing on my nose a zit?") Therefore, I have decided to not worry about losing weight anymore, due to the fact that I am definitely middle aged (I am 49 years old) and I am also getting tested regularly to measure my good health—and my "numbers" are usually within normal parameters. And so, when I am back on my diet, as I continue to "Diet Like A Man," I am trying to pay attention to the kind of food that I buy; I am also trying to remove the excess fat and sugar from my diet; and I am trying to not snack so much as to eat healthy meals when I get hungry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

November 2nd, 2016 Update: Due to being stressed out—and until further notice—I am no longer being an 'Online Activist' in the same way that I was before, which includes no longer signing petitions from political, social, environmental and charitable organizations, as well as no longer making donations to political, social, environmental and charitable causes the same way that I was in the past. (The reader should know that I am HIV-positive with full-blown AIDS.) And so, I am consciously choosing to not engage in any 'activism,' however, I am still planning to exercise my 'civic duty' by voting in upcoming elections.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

November 7th, 2016 Update: I have continued to totally blow my diet whilst "Dieting Like A Man!" And, this month, I have continued my chocolate binge, plus I added a potato chip binge... Therefore, I have decided to not worry about losing weight anymore, due to the fact that I am definitely middle aged (I am 49 years old) and I am also getting tested regularly to measure my good health—and my "numbers" are usually within normal parameters. And so, when I am back on my diet, as I continue to "Diet Like A Man," I am trying to pay attention to the kind of food that I buy; I am also trying to remove the excess fat and sugar from my diet; and I am trying to not snack so much as to eat healthy meals when I get hungry. In addition to that, due to being stressed out—and until further notice—I am no longer posting on my blogs. (The reader should know that I am HIV-positive with full-blown AIDS.) Plus, I may—or may not—provide and update in 2017 for my year-long efforts with "D.A.M.E."

My New Year's Resolution from 2016 Update (which I have never written, due to being too stressed out):

[Coming in 2017...]

Post No. 066: My New Year's Resolutions, Part 3 — My New Year's Resolution from 2015 (Looking Back...)

(Image from YouTube)

My New Year's Resolution from 2015:
"There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E."
(This Is Part Of A Series Of Looking Back At My New Year's Resolutions From 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016)

My New Year's Resolution from 2015 was musically themed as "There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E.," with the acronym 'D.A.M.E.' representing the following:

1. Debt Elimination
2. Activist Sabbatical
3. Music Appreciation
4. Exercise Routine Emotional Development

Debt Elimination: Back then, I worked on being out of credit card debt by the end of 2015, so that the money that I spent on minimum payments and interest each month could be spent elsewhere!

Activist Sabbatical: Back then, after the 2014 "Koch Brothers' Midterm Elections," the wind had gone out of my proverbial sails, and I took an "Activist Sabbatical" for the foreseeable future!

Music Appreciation: Back then, while I was not being an "Online Activist," during My Activist Sabbatical, I recharged my proverbial batteries by listening to the all of music that I wished!

Exercise Routine: I am getting older by the minute... And I can tell by how inflexible I am that I need to create a regular exercise routine, such as yoga, in order to prevent being completely immobile when I am older!

Emotional Development: Back then, before I could even think about starting a new Exercise Routine, I realized, on January 31st, 2015, that I had some Emotional Development issues that I needed to work on!

And, back then, I provided an update, sometime after January 1st, 2016, of my year-long efforts in 2015—along with updates provided during the year—with "D.A.M.E." (Debt Elimination, Activist Sabbatical, Music Appreciation and Exercise Routine Emotional Development) in My New Year's Resolution 2015 Update, all of which can be found below.

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this prose can be summed up with the following statement: Back in 2015, I wrote this prose because I carried over My New Year's Resolutions from 2013 and 2014, which focused on 'Conscious Consumerism,' but, in 2015, I worked on Debt Elimination, an Activist Sabbatical, Music Appreciation and Exercise Routine Emotional Development ("D.A.M.E."), since the 2014 "Koch Brothers' Midterm Elections" were over and the wind had gone out of my proverbial sails.

Also, this prose was originally published January 1st, 2015 on my "Small All White in the Forest" and my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blogs; however, I eventually decided to only keep the "New Year's Resolution" type of posts on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, since these posts are more about philosophy than poetry.

April 24th, 2015 Update: I bought an exercise outfit and fanny pack to go along with my new shoes in order to encourage myself to exercise on a regular basis.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

June 21st, 2015 Update: I finally took my exercise outfit, shoes and fanny pack for a test run (or, a test walk). And I decided to only exercise if I am in the mood and to only exercise until I got tired. Thus, I plan to only exercise, in the beginning of this process, when I am in the mood, and for as long as it feels right, because I am trying to make exercising something that I enjoy!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

November 20th, 2015 Update: I am proud to report that I successfully eliminated my entire credit card debt at the first part of this month, which is "a good thing" (as Martha Stewart would say), since I can spend the money that I was spending on minimum payments and interest on other things, such a buying vegan foods and also making donations for political causes, as well as for charitable causes!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My New Year's Resolution from 2015 Update (which was written sometime after January 1st, 2016):

"It's 2016 and—as I mentioned above—I spent the year working on Debt Elimination, an Activist Sabbatical, Music Appreciation and Exercise Routine Emotional Development ("D.A.M.E."). And I am pleased to report that I am totally credit card debt free as of January 2016!

[January 23rd, 2022 Update: I was editing this post and I decided to research why I had become debt free twice, according to this blog post: first in November of 2015 and again in January of 2016, which is confusing! So, I checked my monthly budget archives and found out that I made one credit card purchase in December 2015, right after I had eliminated all of my credit card debt at the first part of November 2015. Therefore, I paid off that small purchase when I made my credit card payment in January of 2016, which is why it looks like I got totally out of credit card debt two times!]

By the way, I still owe my dad for the furniture that he bought for me when I moved to Oregon from Utah—for the second time—and I plan to repay him as soon as I am able to do so... (Update: I was able to repay my dad for about half of what I still owed him, before he passed away on February 18th, 2018.)

And my New Year's Resolution for 2016 is a continuation of my New Year's Resolution from 2015, since I am finding out that my musically themed New Year's Resolution 'There is Nothin' Like a D.A.M.E.' (which I updated, back then, to stand for Debt Prevention, Activist Return, Music Appreciation and Exercise Routine Emotional Development) is taking longer than just one year!

Speaking of emotional development, I also decided to become vegan again, sometime before the end of March 2015, and I am feeling much better about my food choices, plus I am feeling much better overall. You see, I became vegan the first time in 1999, right before I moved here to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah the first time. (I moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah from Oregon in early 2007—for about two years—and then I returned to Portland in early 2009.) So, this is actually my second time living in Oregon and also my second time being vegan!"

Post No. 065: My New Year's Resolutions, Part 2 — My New Year's Resolution from 2014 (Looking Back...)

(Image from The Nielsen Company)

My New Year's Resolution from 2014:
"Conscious Consumerism!"
(This Is Part Of A Series Of Looking Back At My New Year's Resolutions From 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016)

My New Year's Resolution from 2014 was to become a more "Conscious Consumer!"

For, I genuinely feel that "Conscious Consumerism" is the key to creating a world where everyone can meet their daily needs in a way that promotes ethical and sustainable practices for the production of goods and services worldwide...

...And this New Year's Resolution, back then, was a continuation of my New Year's Resolution from 2013, since I found out that becoming a more Conscious Consumer took longer than just one year! That is why I decided to carryover my New Year's Resolution from 2013 to 2014, and beyond...

...And, in 2013, I began to provide the dates that I started purchasing various conscious consumerism products and the stores where I started buying them on my blog post titled, "My New Year's Resolution for 2013," however, I found out by around the middle of 2013 that I couldn't really afford to buy a lot of what I wanted to buy! So, I decided to simply be as conscious in my consumerism as I could, as often as I could, given my budget! (The reader should know that I am HIV-positive with full-blown AIDS. And I am on Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, so my income is quite limited.)

Then, toward the end of 2013, I had some lunch meat go bad, since I wasn't eating sandwiches often enough, and I thought to myself, "Why am I eating meat at all? I mean, I did feel like I needed to have the highly concentrated protein of meat when I was having health issues, but now that my health is so much better, I should just become a vegetarian again!"

So, I started a vegetarian diet toward the end of 2013 which, in and of itself, is an enormous step toward being a more conscious consumer! (By the way, I was not vegan, back then, since I ate eggs, dairy and honey, etc.) And, as I mentioned above, I continued this same New Year's Resolution in 2014, since I think that some New Year's Resolutions should carry-over to additional years, if your New Year's Resolution takes more than one year to complete!

And therefore, for the year 2014, I worked on getting out of credit card debt, so that I could afford to buy more organic and/or fair trade products, since that is where most of the "Conscious Consumer" products can be easily found for the food that I buy! Also, I tried to buy as much organic and/or fair trade products as I could afford, while I was getting out of my credit card debt, back then!

Plus, buying organic and/or fair trade products is the best way that I can help to Abolish Modern Slavery in the food industry, which is a major issue in food production worldwide—even here in America!

And, back then, I provided an update, sometime after January 1st, 2015, of my year-long efforts, in 2014, to become a more Conscious Consumer in My New Year's Resolution 2014 Update, which can be found below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About Reducing My Carbon Emissions: I am working toward the goal of becoming "Cooler and Smarter" by reducing my carbon emissions through the process of doing the following: (1) signing up for 100% renewable electricity; (2) using rechargeable batteries; (3) using LED light bulbs; and (4) no longer consuming animal products, due to the environmental impact of raising animals for food. –Paul Whiting (written June 4th, 2012, revised April 14, 2015, revised November 24th, 2015 and revised July 18th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About Conscious Consumerism (which were written approximately on January 1st, 2013; written approximately on January 1st, 2014; written sometime after January 1st, 2016; written on March 26th, 2016; written on October 18th, 2018; written with reference to October 28th, 2019 on January 23rd, 2022; written on August 12th, 2021 and turned into 'my writing' on July 31st, 2022):

Written approximately on January 1st, 2013: I genuinely feel that "Conscious Consumerism" is the key to creating a world where everyone can meet their daily needs in a way that promotes ethical and sustainable practices for the production of goods and services worldwide...

...And I actually began this effort when I read about the "Cooler Smarter" campaign by the Union of Concerned Scientists! So, I have already signed up for 100% renewable energy with my local power company; I have invested in using rechargeable batteries for all of my devices; and I am working on replacing all of my incandescent light bulbs!

And then, just recently, I found out that "over 80% of the worlds chocolate comes from West Africa and, unfortunately, many of those farms are using child slaves—in particular the cacao-rich country Ivory Coast." Thus, I have also changed my chocolate buying habits to always purchase organic chocolate and/or fair trade chocolate!

(By the way, later on I found out, from a local food cooperative of which I am a member, that slave labor is even being used in organic chocolate production, so now I only buy fair trade chocolate products!)

Plus, I am also working on being aware of whether I am buying anything made with slave labor and so, I have also taken the WalkFree.org pledge for 'A World Without Slavery,' because "I believe our generation can build a world without slavery!" –Paul Whiting (written approximately on January 1st, 2013)

Written approximately on January 1st, 2014: ...Buying organic and/or fair trade products is the best way that I can help to Abolish Modern Slavery in the food industry, which is a major issue in food production worldwide—even here in America! –Paul Whiting (written approximately on January 1st, 2014)

Written sometime after January 1st, 2016: I also decided to become vegan again, sometime before the end of March 2015, and I am feeling much better about my food choices, plus I am feeling much better overall. –Paul Whiting (written sometime after January 1st, 2016)

Written on March 26th, 2016: I buy "preserved foods" as much as possible (that is, canned, cooked, dried, frozen, pickled and refrigerated, etc.), so that I virtually never throw away food, because I only eat foods that are preserved, when I am in the mood to eat them... Now, this also means that I don't eat fresh foods, but I would eat my own home-grown foods, if I had my own garden! Thus, I choose to not buy fresh produce since I worry about being able to eat produce while it is good and fresh! That is just my personal preference, however, in order to prevent throwing away food that has gone bad—which means wasting food—and that is not okay in My Philosophical Book Of Life! –Paul Whiting (written on March 26th, 2016)

Written on October 18th, 2018: I realized, in the year 2018, that I should be buying and eating fresh produce, especially local produce, as part of choosing to be a "Conscious Consumer." And what prompted me to realize that I should be buying and eating fresh produce, especially local produce, is the fact that in the year 2017 here in Portland, Oregon, I joined three cooperative grocery stores—as a member who buys a 'co-op' share in order to support that 'co-op'—but I was not buying any fresh produce! Thus, I realized my error with regard to not buying fresh produce in terms of being a 'Conscious Consumer,' who endeavors to support local businesses, including small farms. Therefore, I have started to buy and eat fresh produce, from the various grocery stores at which I shop, but in small quantities, so that I have time to eat the produce while it is good and fresh! –Paul Whiting (written on October 18th, 2018)

Written with reference to October 28th, 2019 on January 23rd, 2022: After October 28th, 2019, I decided to stop taking public transportation in order to get around... So, I started to walk everywhere I go in order to transport myself—and as a way for me to exercise at the same time! However, I am limited as to how far I can travel, since I can only walk about a total of three to four miles in one direction. And so, I have been walking everywhere I go, ever since October 28th, 2019. –Paul Whiting (written with reference to October 28th, 2019 on January 23rd, 2022)

Written on August 12th, 2021 and turned into 'my writing' on July 31st, 2022: "How I Use Conscious Consumerism To Live With Respect To The Planet Upon Which I Live": My Point Of View No. 1: I only eat plant-based foods, which means that I'm vegan. I also try to buy minimally processed natural foods, as well as organically grown, fair trade, rain-forest safe, and non-GMO products. Also, I try to buy local products as much as possible. My Point Of View No. 2: I try to buy 100% recycled paper products, including toilet paper, facial tissues and paper towels. My Point Of View No. 3: I try to buy natural personal care products, such a oral hygiene products, as well as organic shampoo and conditioner, organic soaps and natural cleaning products, wherever possible. My Point Of View No. 4: I buy 100% clean electricity for my apartment and rechargeable batteries for my devices that can use rechargeable batteries. My Point Of View No. 5: I travel by walking — which is exercise for me — although, that limits to how far I can travel by walking. My Point Of View No. 6: I keep up with politics in order to stay more informed as a voter. And I make sure that I vote in every election, including "special elections." My Point Of View No. 7: I also keep up with the news in order to stay more informed as a citizen. And I subscribe to news organizations that I can afford given my budget. My Point Of View No. 8: I budget very carefully, so that I know where every penny is going. And I track what I save when I spend money, such as store discounts and coupons, as well as other discounts, so that I can spend that money on other things. My Point Of View No. 9: And the mobile phone company that I'm with, CREDO Mobile, is also very environmentally conscientious and socially conscientious. Plus, they make regular donations to different organizations that are trying to do good in the world. My Point Of View No. 10: And, so, this is how I am doing my part to try and reduce the effects of global warming! –Paul Whiting (written on August 12th, 2021, turned into 'my writing' on July 31st, 2022 and revised May 12th, 2023)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About The Perfect Reasons To Go Vegan: Why give food that you can eat to animals and then eat animal meat, or other animal products? In other words, "Cut out the middle man." Besides that, why contribute to the impact of eating animal meat, or other animal products, which accounts for a really large percentage of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions? In other words, "Cut out the global warming." –Paul Whiting (written March 30th, 2015, revised October 18th, 2021 and revised July 18th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About How Raising Animals For Food Is Slavery: Raising animals for food is basically slavery—and we should not engage in, support, or condone slavery in any way, shape or form—because slavery is just plain wrong. –Paul Whiting (written April 11th, 2015 and revised July 18th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About Becoming Vegan: If possible, become vegan! I became vegan again (for the second time), around the end of March 2015, and I am feeling much better about my food choices, plus I am feeling much better overall. Veganism is naturally healthier and you can lose weight! The first time that I became vegan, I lost forty pounds over several months, due to choosing to only consume foods that were not animal-based. –Paul Whiting (written April 11th, 2015 and revised July 18th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing About How Consuming Animal Meat And Other Animal Products Is Not Good: Consuming animal meat, as well as other animal products, is not good for the animals—it is not good for you—and it is not good for global warming, because livestock, and their byproducts, account for a really large percentage of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. –Paul Whiting (written December 27th, 2015, revised October 18th, 2021, revised October 24th, 2021 and revised July 18th, 2022)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this prose can be summed up with the following statement: Back in 2014, I wrote this prose because "I genuinely feel that 'Conscious Consumerism' is the key to creating a world where everyone can meet their daily needs in a way that promotes ethical and sustainable practices for the production of goods and services worldwide..."

Also, this prose was originally published January 1st, 2014 on my "Small All White in the Forest" and my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blogs; however, I eventually decided to only keep the "New Year's Resolution" type of posts on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, since these posts are more about philosophy than poetry.

And I also decided to republish these "New Year's Resolution" type of posts from my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, on this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. You see, these "Resolution" posts were originally published in the years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 on January 1st—with updates provided, for each of the above-mentioned years at the start of the following year (with the exception of the update for My New Year's Resolution from 2016, in which case I did not provide an update in 2017 due to being too stressed out), as well as with updates provided during the year in 2015 and 2016—and I have basically kept the same New Year's Resolutions ever since then.

My New Year's Resolution from 2014 Update (which was written sometime after January 1st, 2015):

"It's 2015 and—as I mentioned above—I spent the year trying to become a more Conscious Consumer! So, I tried to buy as many organic and/or fair trade products during the year as I could afford on my budget!

And continuing into 2015, I am carrying over my Conscious Consumerism, but I am working on Debt Elimination, an Activist Sabbatical, Music Appreciation and an Exercise Routine ('D.A.M.E.') now that the "Koch Brothers' Midterm Elections" are over [which is a reference to the midterm elections of 2014] and 'We, The People' virtually live in 'The United States of the One Percent!'"

For, I genuinely feel that "Conscious Consumerism"* is the key to creating a world where everyone can meet their daily needs in a way that promotes ethical and sustainable practices for the production of goods and services worldwide...

...And I actually began this effort, back then, when I read about the "Cooler Smarter" campaign by the Union of Concerned Scientists!** So, I signed up for 100% renewable energy with my local power company (sometime before 2013, but after June 1st, 2010, when I moved in to my current studio apartment); I also chose, back then, to stop eating beef (although, I did still eat other meats, cheese, milk and honey, back then); and I invested in using rechargeable batteries for all of my devices; plus, I also (eventually) replaced all of my incandescent light bulbs!

And, back then, I found out that "over 80% of the worlds chocolate comes from West Africa and, unfortunately, many of those farms are using child slaves—in particular the cacao-rich country Ivory Coast."*** Thus, I changed my chocolate buying habits to always purchase organic chocolate and/or fair trade chocolate!

(By the way, later on I found out, from a local food cooperative of which I am a member, that slave labor is even being used in organic chocolate production, so now I only buy fair trade chocolate products!)

Plus, in 2013, I started working on being aware of whether I am buying anything made with slave labor and so, I also took the WalkFree.org pledge for 'A World Without Slavery'**** because "I believe our generation can build a world without slavery!"

And, back then, I provided an update, sometime after January 1st, 2014, of my year-long efforts, in 2013, to become a more Conscious Consumer in My New Year's Resolution 2013 Update, which can be found below.

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this prose can be summed up with the following statement: Back in 2013, I wrote this prose because "I genuinely feel that 'Conscious Consumerism' is the key to creating a world where everyone can meet their daily needs in a way that promotes ethical and sustainable practices for the production of goods and services worldwide..."

Also, this prose was originally published January 1st, 2013 on my "Small All White in the Forest" and my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blogs; however, I eventually decided to only keep the "New Year's Resolution" type of posts on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, since these posts are more about philosophy than poetry.

And I also decided to republish these "New Year's Resolution" type of posts from my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher" blog, on this new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog. You see, these "Resolution" posts were originally published in the years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 on January 1st—with updates provided for each of the above-mentioned years at the start of the following year (with the exception of the update for My New Year's Resolution from 2016, in which case I did not provide an update in 2017 due to being too stressed out), as well as with updates provided during the year in 2015 and 2016—and I have basically kept the same New Year's Resolutions ever since then.

My New Year's Resolution from 2013 Update (which was written sometime after January 1st, 2014):

"It's 2014 and—as I mentioned above—I began to provide the dates that I started purchasing various conscious consumerism products and the stores where I started buying them... However, I found out around the middle of 2013 that I couldn't really afford to buy a lot of what I wanted to! So, I decided to simply be as conscious in my consumerism as I could, as often as I could, given my budget! (The reader should know that I am HIV-positive with full-blown AIDS. And I am on Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, so my income is quite limited.) Then, toward the end of 2013, I had some lunch meat go bad, since I wasn't eating sandwiches often enough, and I thought to myself, "Why am I eating meat at all? I did feel like I needed to have the highly concentrated protein of meat when I was having health issues, but now that my health is so much better, I should just become a vegetarian again!" So, I started a vegetarian diet toward the end of 2013 which, in and of itself, is an enormous step toward being a more conscious consumer! (By the way, I am not vegan, since I eat eggs, dairy and honey, etc.) Plus, I am continuing this same New Year's Resolution of Conscious Consumerism in 2014, since I think that some New Year's Resolutions should carry over to additional years, if your New Year's Resolution takes more than one year to complete!"

Post No. 063: For The New Year — "A Happy New Year For Every One Of Us!"

(Image by Paul Whiting)

(It Should Be) A Happy New
Year For Every One Of Us!

It should be "A Happy New Year" for every one of us:
For the young and the old;
For the meek and the bold;
For whoever you are: White, Black or Brown;
For however you may feel about yourself;
For whichever are your pronouns;
For those living in the countryside;
For those living in the cities or towns;
For those living in every county and province around;
For the ones we know because they are at a distance;
For the ones we know because they are so near;
For everyone who is a part of God's coexistence;
For everyone who is a part of what God holds dear;
For those who are struggling;
For those who are juggling;
For those who have less;
For those who have more;
For the ones who travel all over the world;
For the ones who never step outside of their door;
For the ones who know that they have been everywhere;
For the ones who do not know where they have been;
For the unthinking;
For the studied;
For the muddied;
For the clean;
For the wild;
For the mild;
For the challenged;
For the unchallenged;
For those who are terribly fat;
For those who are terribly thin;
For those who only believe in this or that;
For those who only seem to try and win;
For those who think that they can only loose;
For those who just keep on singing those blues;
For the ones who are incredibly muscular;
For the ones who are incredibly weak;
For the ones who are male, or female;
For the ones who are everything in between;
For straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, intersex, or trans;
For every one of us who sees life through a different lens;
For every one of us who loves to be seen;
For every one of us who cannot be seen;
For every one of us who have a lot in common;
For every one of us who are quite uncommon;
For every one of us who are so very common;
For every one of us who likes to eat ramen;
For every one of us who are geeks;
For every one of us who are sheik;
For all of the people, animals, insects and plants;
For the entire environment and the whole planet...

My Writing Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: I wrote this poem because I changed the original theme of this post. You see, the original title of this post was: "Happy New Year! Happy New Blog!" And I was going to say something about that very topic with regard to my new "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog, I created in order to have "a place to place all of my best writing in one place!"

But then, on December 29th, 2021, I got to thinking about how I wanted to sing a song for The New Year to publish on YouTube (because I have a YouTube channel, which is called "Paul Whiting: Poet, Artist and Philosopher," at https://youtube.com/user/pauleewhitingartist), but there are really only two songs about New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day, or The New Year, which are not that many! And I didn't want to sing those two songs—even though I started to draft a medley of those two songs combined, so that I could sing them for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and publish them on YouTube...

...And then, I though about trying to write an original song for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day/The New Year (which would be my first attempt at doing such a thing), but I don't really know who to read and/or write music! However, that did not stop me from attempting to write a 'chorus' for this New Year's song, which I originally titled: "(It Should Be) A Happy New Year For Everyone!" And I kept adding all sorts of different lines—in the chorus for this New Year's song—which were all of the types of people and things that I felt should be included in having "A Happy New Year For Everyone!"

Anyway, as I continued writing, it dawned on me that I was essentially writing a poem. So, that is when I decided to change this post title from "Happy New Year! Happy New Blog!" to "(It Should Be) A Happy New Year For Every One Of Us!"

By the way, I changed the last word of the title, since I looked up the difference between the word 'everyone' and the words 'every one' and found out that "everyone (one word) should be used when referring to all the people within a group [and] every one (two words) should be used when referring to each individual member of a group. [Thus,] every one is the version you want when it's followed by an 'of' phrase."

And that it is all that I have to say about every one of us, everyone, on this New Year's Day!

And this poem was only published on my "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blog.

This poem was written in Portland, Oregon.
